Chairman and Founder
Hon. Mr. Katuri Subba Rao, an entrepreneur and philanthropist struggled through his entire life to establish higher educational institutions and hospitals to serve people in India and Tanzania. Following the personal request by the Father of the Nation, Mwalimu Julius Nyerere, who visited his Educational Foundation and College in India, Mr. Subba Rao agreed to establish the first private medical University in Tanzania, in 1997, the International Medical and Technological University (IMTU)
Over the past 22 years this University had produced more than 2200 qualified doctors and allied healthcare professionals. We are proud to learn that these graduates are highly sought after in Tanzania and many other countries.
Time has come now for establishing another institution under the same Foundation, namely the Vignan Institute of Science and Technology (VIST) registered under the National Council for Technical Education (NACTE). Our mission is to provide high quality education, to prepare qualified human resources in the fields medicine, allied health and technology professions to serve the people and communities across Tanzania.
In the past our focus was primarily in health sciences related disciplines only. Now, going forward, we shall, expand to cover fields of Engineering and Technology and build strong linkages between the Institution and the industry by producing the highly sought human resource skills to support the industrialization process in this country.
I direct the Institute management to use this website to share the programs, plans and achievements of the VIST with the community and all other stake holders, including parents, guardians, sponsors and leaders.
